NHTV, North Haven Community Television, Inc., the Officially Recognized P.E.G. Access Provider for North Haven, Connecticut, was founded in 1984, by a dedicated group of volunteers, to bring public, educational and governmental television to North Haven. Incorporated in 1987 as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, NHTV provided equipment to residents to produce their own television programming. In 1988, the public access channel was activated by Rollins Cablevision, joining the NHETV Educational Access channel, which began in 1976. NHTV2, the Government Access channel, was activated in 1993. In 1991, NHTV opened its first studio, editing facility and office at 21 Broadway in North Haven. The studio provided yet another way for residents to produce television programs of interest to the community. In addition, since 1989, NHTV has produced live, local election coverage, live parade coverage and other events. In August, 1995, NHTV moved from its cramped facility on Broadway, to its present location at 127 Washington Avenue. On December 5, 1996, NHTV reached another milestone: becoming the first P.E.G. access provider in the State of Connecticut, and one of the first in the nation, to sign an agreement to allow the carriage of its P.E.G. channels on an additional "overbuild" cable system, SNET Americast, in exchange for additional funding from SNET for P.E.G. access operations. NHTV also continues its longstanding carriage on Comcast (formerly AT&T Broadband) . In October, 2008, NHTV three North Haven channels gained carriage on AT&T U-Verse and are now available to all Frontier TV subscribers throughout Connecticut. In December, 2009, North Haven Community Television, Inc. changed its legal name to Connecticut Community Television, Inc.
Today, NHTV's facility contains a studio control room, an digital HD non-linear editing suite, conference room, master control room, office and kitchenette (the NHTV Cafe). NHTV also operates NHTV2 Government Access Television, which carries local Town meetings and local government news and information. The NHTV2 Master Control and Mini-Studio is located in the North Haven Fire Headquarters, which is set up via generator back-up in case of emergency. NHTV also operates and supports, both with technical expertise as well as providing equipment, NHETV, North Haven Educational Television, which originates from the North Haven High School Media Center, under the direction of Mr. Justin Falcon. NHETV provides a wide variety of programming, news and information concerning North Haven Public Schools.
